The object of the Literals puzzles is to spell out a sentence by clicking on a set of letters in a specific order. Each time a letter is clicked, the sentence will be filled in with the letter. There are multiple sentences on each puzzle; selecting the various characters on the screen (except for the Fool) moves between the senteces. Each sentence has a different set of letters and a different solution. The sentences on each puzzle are loosely related to each other.
As letters are clicked, the punctuation for each sentence is filled in automatically, as is the spacing for the words in that sentence. This can often provide clues to the solution. For example, a double letter after an apostrophe is almost certainly an L.
Reading the text for each puzzle often provides more clues as to what the sentences may be about.
